What should I expect during my first visit?When visiting Essentia for the first time we will require you to complete an initial consultation form. You will be asked to provide your personal details along with a full account of your medical history along with details of any current prescribed medication. You will only be asked to do this once. Please aim to arrive approximately 10 minutes prior to your appointment time in order to allow sufficient tome to complete your initial paperwork at reception.

What do I need to do when I arrive?Our reception is manned Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm. If your appointment is within these hours please check in at reception upon arrival. Our receptionist will let your therapist know you have arrived and you will collected from the main waiting area and escorted to your therapy room. If your appointment is outside these hours please take a seat in the main waiting area. Your therapist will be along to collect you shortly.

Are there parking facilities?Yes we have free onsite parking facilities to the rear of The Old Brewery building. There are two disabled parking bays located right outside of the main entrance.

Are there toilet facilities?Yes we have male, female and disabled toilet facilities located in the main reception area on the ground floor.

Is there wheelchair access?Our therapy rooms are located on the first floor, however they are wheelchair accessible via our lift. We also have two disabled parking bays located right by the main entrance. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us prior to your visit.

What do I wear for a massage?It is often necessary for you to undress in order to receive a massage treatment. You will never be asked to remove your underpants. You will be covered with a towel throughout the treatment - only the body area we are working on will be uncovered at any one time. You may feel more comfortable bringing shorts along to wear during your treatment.

How can I pay?We accept cash or card payments. We also now have facility to take contactless payments and Apple Pay.

Can I bring a friend, family member or carer with me?"You are welcome to bring a friend or relative along with you to your appointment, however as we value your therapy experience we do not recommend they accompany you during you into the treatment room. They can wait for you in the main reception area. In exceptional circumstances or if you require a carer to accompany you for the duration of your treatment please advise upon booking so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

I have pre-existing medical conditions, is it safe to have a treatment?"If you have pre-existing medical conditions and you are at all concerned if your preferred treatment being safe for you, please contact to discuss prior to your appointment.

Can two of us have a massage at the same time?Unfortunately we only have provision for one massage at a time. If you are happy to have one treatment after another then this can be arranged.

What if the pressure is too firm/ light?Each treatment has a pressure rating ranging between light, medium or firm. Please bare this in mind when choosing your treatment. You can also advise your therapist of your preferred pressure. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Does the appointment time reflet the actual hands on treatment time?We pride ourselves on providing high quality, effective treatments. Unlike many other therapy practices, the time slots booked reflect the actual hands on treatment time.

What special offers and discounts do you offer?We offer 10% stress discount for clients working in the top 10 stressful jobs in the UK. These include: Nurses, Doctors, Dentist, Teachers, Social Workers, Prison Officers, Police Officers, Fire fighters, and unpaid Carer registered with Durham County Carers Scheme. You will be asked to provide evidence of this. We also provide special offers at various times through the year.

What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?We understand that it may be necessary for you to cancel your appointment from time to time. We ask that you kindly provide as much notice as possible so that we may offer your appointment time to someone else. We ask for a minimum of 48 hours in order to cancel or re-arrange your appointment free of charge. Any less than this and the missed appointment time is fully chargeable.
