About the Event

Wim Hof (also known as The Iceman) is a Dutch extreme athlete noted for his ability to withstand freezing temperatures. He has set Guinness world records for swimming under ice and prolonged full-body contact with ice, and still holds the record for a barefoot half-marathon on ice and snow. He attributes these feats to his Wim Hof Method (WHM), a combination of frequent cold exposure, breathing techniques and meditation.

Put yourself in the expert hands of our certified WHM Instructor Hayley for a three hour fundamentals workshop. Find out how you can utilize oxygen and cold exposure to optimize body & mind, and learn about the underlying physiology.

The Wim Hof Method is based on three powerful pillars: Breathing Technique, Cold Exposure & Commitment.

1. Cold Exposure

The cold is your friend! Proper exposure to the cold starts a cascade of health benefits, including the buildup of brown adipose tissue and resultant fat loss, reduced inflammation that facilitates a fortified immune system, balanced hormone levels, improved sleep quality, and the production of endorphins- the feel good chemicals in the brain that naturally elevate your mood.

2. Conscious Breathing

The second pillar of the Wim Hof Method m is breathing. We’re always breathing, yet we’re mostly unaware of its tremendous potential. Heightened oxygen levels hold a treasure trove of benefits, and the specialized breathing technique of the Wim Hof Method unearths them all: more energy, reduced stress levels, and an augmented immune response that swiftly deals with pathogens.

3. Commitment & Mindset

The third pillar of the Wim Hof Method is the foundation of the other two: both cold exposure and conscious breathing require patience and dedication in order to be fully mastered. Armed with focus and determination you are ready to explore and eventually master your own body and mind.

Whether you are looking to improve mental or physical performance, relieve symptoms related to an illness, or are just curious to find out what the Wim Hof Method is all about- the WHM fundamentals workshop offers something for everyone.

The program will begin with an introduction to the Wim Hof Method, followed by a guided breathing session and an (optional) ice bath. There is also ample time for reflection, and questions throughout workshop.

How can I prepare for the workshop?

For optimal benefits, it is advised not to eat anything for 3hrs prior to the breathing session (which will take place at approx 10am) - drinks such as water, tea & coffee etc. are fine.

Practice a ratio of 1:2 breathing - e.g. if you inhale for 2 then exhale for 4, so whatever you inhale, make the exhalation double the length. Relaxation is in the exhale. This stimulates the vagus nerve which induces a sense of calmness. Throughout the day, come back to this way of breathing (always via the nose - especially the inhale) - this is a particularly good breathing technique to do at bed time or when faced with a stressful situation.

You may also like to being to introduce an element of daily cold water exposure into your routine. Aim to finish your daily shower with a short blast of cold water building up to 1-2minutes. Use the 1:2 breathing to help breath through the experience. I promise this will leave you feeling invigorated full of energy for the day ahead.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is suitable for everyone, no experience necessary - but does require a basic level of health. Out of precaution, we advise against participation during pregnancy, or if you are epileptic. People with cardiovascular issues, or any other serious health conditions should always consult a medical professional before participating in the Wim Hof fundamentals workshop, or trying such methods at home.
